You will spend a few days in a Transbaikalian Russian family on the shore of Lake Baikal and will get acquainted with traditional way of life of Siberians.
Moreover, you will take part in fishing, preparation of firewood and other traditional activities. You will try traditional Siberian-Baikal cuisine and learn how to make unique Baikal dishes. A hot Siberian "banya" (traditional Russian stem bad) will help you to forget all of your troubles. The hospitality and goodwill of your hosts will stay in your memory for many years.
The Semeiskie (the Old Believers of Transbaikalia) is a unique confessional community of "Old Believers" inside Russia, and possess their own specific elements of culture and their own group consciousness. The community of "Semeyskie" was recognized in 2001 by UNESCO for preserving its heritage.
You will surely receive warm welcome and have chance to learn about with their history, culture and lifestyle. You will enjoy Russian folklore and choral singing just like it sounded in the 17th century and will participate in traditional customs and games. You will taste some dishes in preserved traditional style of Russian homemade cuisine.
In the Buryat village you will see the colorfully-decorated typical dwelling of the Eastern Buryats - the "yurt". You will be welcomed by hosts dressed in traditional costume who will share traditional songs and invite you into the yurt according to the tradition of the Buryats. You will learn about the yurt`s purposes and typical interior. Then you will put together a yurt, dance traditional dances in a circle and get acquainted with Buryat history, folklore, old traditions and lifestyle. You will taste traditional Buryat dishes: salamat (sour cream dish), soup with noodles, omul, pozy (dumplings filled with minced meat), green tea, and a dessert served with jam made from a berry found only in Siberia. After dinner you will have dress up in Buryat clothing, learn archery and play a traditional game using mutton bones.
