The Selenga River is the main tributary of Lake Baikal. It flows out from the Mongolian Lake Hubsugul, and its length is 1024 km. It accounts for about half of the total volume of all river inflow into Lake Baikal. The banks of the river are very picturesque. At the river`s mouth, it forms the only freshwater delta in the world with a surface area of more than 600 square meters. The Selenga River is ideal for kayaking, with possible trips ranging from several hours to ten days. The Selenga River Delta - is one of the key ornithological sites of Eastern Siberia. Consisting of a host of channels, islets, and reed and sedge thickets, it is an extremely picturesque and diverse area. The Selenga River Delta plays a very important role in the preservation of flying and nesting birds` populations. The Delta is included in a list of the wetlands of international importance as a unique place of waterfowl`s dwellin. It`s an unique place for a birdwatching. |
